Frames for Your Portrait

Over the years, I've discovered that there are certain frame patterns that show my work to best advantage. I have used those particular styles over and over, always with success. The frames I select for my portraits are museum-quality, hand-carved and always finished in antiqued gold leaf. My framer of choice is the famous House of Heydenryk in New York, since 1845 one of the most admired framing firms in the world. For more about them, go to Heydenryk.com. Here are three Heydenryk patterns that I use for my work:

Framing Procedure
After the preliminary sketch has been approved and the size of the canvas has been determined, the frame is ordered. The carving and gilding of the frame—which takes four to five weeks—can proceed while the portrait itself is being painted. Then, at the final sittings, the portrait can be viewed in its frame for a total effect.
